Ultrasound

General color ultrasound, echocardiography, obstetric ultrasound, and internal organ imaging with modern color ultrasound systems.

The Ultrasound Room at Ky Hoa Medical Center is equipped with multi-functional color ultrasound machines, allowing comprehensive evaluation of internal organs in the abdomen, neck, thyroid, breasts, and vascular systems. Experienced radiologists perform and interpret the scans, ensuring high accuracy. The ultrasound results are returned on the same day and serve as a crucial basis for clinicians to adjust appropriate treatment plans.

What surveys does Ultrasound perform?

  • General abdominal ultrasound: liver, gallbladder, pancreas, kidneys, spleen, bladder
  • Obstetric ultrasound: pregnancy monitoring, checking fetal heart rate and fetal morphology
  • Ultrasound of the thyroid, salivary glands, and neck structures
  • Breast ultrasound: detection of tumors, cysts, and breast tissue abnormalities
  • Soft tissue ultrasound: evaluation of cysts, abscesses, and subcutaneous masses
  • Vascular (Doppler) ultrasound: evaluation of arterial and venous circulation in the limbs

When should you undergo an ultrasound?

  • Abdominal pain, bloating, or suspected hepatobiliary, renal, or pancreatic disorders
  • Regular pregnancy monitoring according to the prenatal care schedule
  • Detection of a lump, cyst, or unusual thickness in the neck, breast, or abdomen
  • Diabetic and hypertensive patients requiring screening for internal organ complications
  • General abdominal ultrasound as part of an annual routine health check-up package

Performance Process

  1. Preparation and Reception: The nurse guides the patient on positioning and reviews preparation requirements (fasting for abdominal ultrasound, drinking enough water to fill the bladder for pelvic ultrasound).
  2. Ultrasound Execution: The doctor applies coupling gel and moves the transducer over the areas to be surveyed, saving images for analysis.
  3. Image Analysis: The radiologist evaluates the size, structure, and abnormalities on the ultrasound images compared to normal standards.
  4. Result Delivery and Counseling: The results are returned on the same day with a clear explanation — which clinicians can use immediately to adjust treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to fast before an abdominal ultrasound? Yes, you need to fast for at least 6 hours before a general abdominal ultrasound to allow the gallbladder to distend and to obtain clearer images of the hepatobiliary-pancreatic system. Fasting is not required for thyroid or breast ultrasounds.

Does ultrasound affect the fetus? Ultrasound uses sound waves, not radiation, and is completely safe for both the mother and the fetus. It is the standard recommended method for monitoring pregnancy worldwide.

Can an ultrasound replace a CT Scan? Ultrasound and CT Scans complement each other rather than replace one another completely. Ultrasound is suitable for initial screening and monitoring, while CT Scan provides higher resolution for complex lesions — the doctor will order the most appropriate method for each case.
